Age Requirement: Must be over the age of 18, regardless of parental consent.
Medical Clearance: If you are under a physician's care for a serious illness or disease, you must obtain a release from your doctor prior to the procedure.
Pregnancy: The procedure will not be performed if you are pregnant. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Botox and Fillers:
Botox should be administered either 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks after the procedure.
Lip fillers should be done 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after the procedure to avoid patchiness due to filler expansion.
Menstrual Cycle: If you are on your menstrual cycle during the procedure, you may experience increased sensitivity and discomfort.
Medications and Supplements: Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Niacin, and vitamins (including shakes/smoothies) for up to 3 days prior to the procedure, unless medically necessary, to reduce the risk of excessive bleeding. Tylenol is a safer alternative for pain relief if needed.
Topical Products:
Avoid using Retin-A, retinols, AHA’s, Vitamin A, or any similar lightening and peeling products for at least 1 week prior to the procedure.
Do not use these products near the procedure area for a minimum of 30 days post-procedure, as they may cause the pigment to fade more quickly.
Accutane: Must be stopped one year prior to the procedure.
Alcohol and Caffeine: Should be avoided for 24 hours before the procedure to minimize additional bleeding and swelling.
Cold Sores: If you have a history of cold sores, inform your provider as you may need an antiviral medication before the procedure. If you have any open sores (cold sores, blisters, pimples) on your lips, the procedure will not be performed.
Hydrate Lips: Keep your lips well-hydrated in the days leading up to your treatment to ensure the skin is in good condition.
Sun Exposure: Avoid tanning beds and excessive sun exposure before the procedure. If you arrive with a sunburn or a fake tan, you may be turned away and asked to reschedule.
Exercise: Do not work out on the day of the procedure and avoid strenuous activities for 10 days following the procedure to prevent compromising the results.
Pigment Expectations: Be aware that pigment can fade, and touch-ups may be required. Healing results are individual, and some areas may retain pigment better than others.
By following these pre-care instructions, you can ensure a safe and effective lip blushing or lip liner procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please consult with your provider.
